Homemade is AH-Mazing!

Every year right before school starts I always make a batch of cinnamon applesauce. I love it because it’s the perfect afterschool snack to help kids (and adults too) tide themselves over until dinnertime.  Another bonus is that your home will smell amazing while it’s cooking! Talk about make you ready for fall…this will push you over the edge on that one!

Apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves…these are the aromas that are bursting life into my kitchen right now! I am obsessed with fall flavours and am pretty ecstatic about all the fall goodies that will be born in my kitchen this year. In preparation, I am taking out my slow cooker to make a batch of the most essential fall ingredient, applesauce.

TIPS FOR CROCKPOT APPLESAUCE:

  • Leave the cinnamon out if you are not a fan of cinnamon.
  • We like our applesauce on the chunky side and so I just gently break up the apples with a wooden spoon or spatula once the apples are cooked.
  • If you like a smoother applesauce, use an immersion blender to blend the apples after they are cooked.
  • I use this serrated knife to peel and slice my apples.
  • Some of the best choices are Gala, Fuji, Melrose, Jonathan and Cameo.
